I don’t know why you can’t make a free email to work. Gmail works fine for me if you don’t put two step verification on. The first field is smtp.gmail.com:465 the rest is explanatory

GMX SOLUTION:

I cannot comment on the limit of 26 messages but if people ever ask how to make mt4’s email alerts work these days, for example with the proposed gmx.com free email server they need to log into gmx.com Settings page to enable “Send and receive emails via external program” and click Save button.

The reason that this is SMS only, is because when I first wrote it, that is all that there was available. But now, if you can do push, you should do that. In certain countries though, SMS is still the better option.

It depends on which version of Gmail you are using. When I wrote that tutorial, none of the free email services allowed you to use the account as a SMTP relay. GMX was the last one, but they changed that policy a few years ago.

So, if you are using the paid version of Gmail, then you can use it for MT. Otherwise, you cannot do the relay…unless they changed something. Give it a try and see for yourself.

Your phone can notify you with popups for either so why do you only mention SMS? I guess an advantage of SMS is you would rely on cell connection for alerts rather than internet.
Also, your method seems a bit convoluted compared to guides that just say go via e.g. Gmail smtp e.g. http://smartforexlearning.com/email-price-alerts-metatrader-4/
(which could be used for either SMS or email alerts depending on the recipient address used).
Is this because you have found using e.g. smtp.gmail.com:465 to be unsuccessful? I am a newbie so just trying to learn about this.

I know we also have the app push method now as your great other article says, but it would be good to get clarification on the above. Thanks for your articles & videos.

It’s been several days now but am still getting the same MT4 error, “Mail: error connecting to mail.tao********.com:25? I’m able to get text alerts from other sources so I’m fairly certain it’s an MT4 problem. Any ideas I might try?

If you just signed up for the HG account, it might take up to 48 hours for the new domain to filter through the interwebs. Give it a shot in a day or two and see what happens. A couple of other people had issues with that also. If it’s not that, then let me know and I’ll do my best to help.
