Last month, I shared my favorite iOS Forex trading apps.  Today, I'm going to share my picks for the top Android Forex trading apps.

Since I don't actually own any Android devices, this list is based on research or using the iOS version.  But if you are an Android fan and a Forex trader, then this list is for you.

5.  Bloomberg

bloomberg-screenshot

Bloomberg is one of my favorite news sources and I like their mobile app.  In addition to worldwide news, you can easily see the performance of various worldwide markets, just by looking at their “Markets” tab.

4.  Kindle Reader

I love Kindle books because they take up no physical space and I can take my library with me anywhere I go.  The Kindle reader app should be a staple for you if you use Android.  Easily access your trading books when you are on the train or waiting for a doctor's appointment.  The application is well built and is highly rated.

For some people, it might take a little getting used to, if you usually read physical books.  I'm at the age where most of my friends prefer reading paper books, so I understand if you feel the same way right now.  All that I suggest is that you give it a chance.

You might be surprised and you will be able to clear out a lot of space by getting rid of your paper books and converting to electronic versions.  And you save some trees by not buying the paper version in the future. 🙂

3.  Evernote

When it comes to keeping notes, there isn't anything better than Evernote.  Access your trading notes, your trade journal or your shopping list. It is amazing how simple and powerful the concept behind Evernote is.  Here a video of the Android app in action.

2.  Oanda fxTrade

Yes, my favorite broker has an app that is also available on Android.  As you can see from the ratings above, it is a good app.  I noticed that there were some requests to be able to calculate profit and loss on the order entry screen, like with the java version.

Something that I totally agree with.  Otherwise, it is a solid app and has been working well.

1.  TradeInterceptor

Of course, since TradeInterceptor is my favorite app on iOS, it will also be my favorite app on Android.  In my opinion, it is light years ahead of other charting platforms like Metatrader and a lot of the broker apps.  I wish that there was a way to add indicators and do custom trading signals, but otherwise, it is excellent.  Hopefully, they will come up with something soon, but it is more difficult with a mobile app.

Conclusion

Next time, I share my favorite Windows Phone and Blackberry Forex trading apps.  NOT!  Who uses that crap anyway?

Seriously, just like in trading, use whatever technology works for you.  If you read my last post on iOS apps, you will see that the apps that I like are exactly the same for iOS and Android.  I think that this is really a testament to how good both of these platforms are.  I really wanted to find Android apps that were different, but I didn't see any reason to go beyond these.

As an interesting side note, TradeInterceptor is available on Blackberry, but not on Windows Phone.  The same thing goes for the Oanda app.  The other apps have versions for all 4 platforms.  This may be a consideration for you, if you are considering getting a Windows Phone.

But if you have any other Android apps that you like, please share them in the comments below.

Find out why I like them so much and how they can help you.

Ever since I first saw the iPhone I knew that I would have one.

I did not end up getting one until the iPhone 3 and I currently have a 4S.

I'm actually really happy with this phone, but it is starting to show signs of slowing down.

I'm not in a big rush to get a 5S though.

I might, but I think I can hold out for the 6S, which is what I think they will call the iPhone after the 5S.

Anyway, the bottom line is that I am really happy with my phone and I have tried out a lot of Forex trading apps over the years.

Here are the top 5 trading apps for iPhone that I recommend.

5.  Bloomberg

Bloomberg and other trading apps for iPhone

I had a bunch of news apps on my phone before, such as CNBC and a few others that I don't remember, but this is the only one that stuck.

I like that it is easy to read and easy to use.  I might find something better in the future, but I'm not a huge news junkie, so just the basics from a reputable company is good enough for me.

4.  Kindle

Whenever I have some free time, I like to read as much as I can on my Kindle.

The last really good trading book that I read (and am still re-reading) is The PlayBook, by Mike Bellafiore.

It is what inspired me to make more use of Evernote and do a better job of not only documenting my trades, but writing down possible setups that I have seen, which could be used to create new trading systems.

If you have a chance to get it, I highly recommend it.

Anyway, I love the Kindle app because even though the iPhone screen is pretty small, the text sizes accordingly, so it is still easy to read.

My sister mentioned to me that she used to think that reading a book on your phone was probably pretty tough, but she read a Kindle book on a flight recently and she really liked it.

The Apple iBooks app is not bad, but it doesn't have nearly the same number of titles that Kindle has.

However, it does make it easy to upload your PDFs, but they are a little hard to read.

3.  Evernote

This is what I use to review my trades and write down notes that I think of during the course of the day.

I really helps to have all of your notes in one place.

I still carry my notebook to write down ideas that I have throughout the day, but putting it in Evernote makes it really easy to organize and find later.

When I am traveling, I can review my trades and see where I can improve.

2.  Oanda fxTrade

Oanda is always a little behind the curve when it comes to technology.

They were late to the game to implement trailing stops and their iPad app did not work for me for the longest time.

Thankfully their iPhone app has always been solid.

I have some issues with the user interface and the charting is completely useless, but the bottom line is that it works every time and it executes trades like it should.

It is very reliable in that respect.

The reality is that other brokers probably aren't much better on the interface and the charting.

So in spite of my gripes with the app, I still like Oanda as a broker, their apps work great for order execution and will continue to trade with them.

But to me, there is only one app for charting…

1.  TradeInterceptor

The first time that I saw this app, I was blown away by how easy they made it to do things that would otherwise be cake on a desktop, but nobody had quite figured out on a mobile device yet.

Things like measuring candles/pips, adding indicators that were actually usable, getting a crosshair that stayed put, automatic chart scaling, a magnifying glass to zoom in on hard to see parts of the chart, and more!

In case you missed the review video, here it is:

Final Thoughts on Best Trading Apps For iPhone

You are probably wondering where the Metatrader app is.  I did a review on the Metatrader 5 app awhile back and I was pretty disappointed.

Their charting is not even close to what TradeInterceptor can do and the only real reason to use the Metatrader 4 app is because you can send alerts from your desktop directly to the app on your phone.

From my limited testing, the connection seems much more reliable than the text message method.

However, you do have to have your indicators setup to send MT alerts, or it doesn't seem to work.

But if you are for some trading apps for your iPhone, this is where I recommend you start.  I'm not saying that this is these are the only apps out there, but they are the best I have found.

Metatrader 5 iPhone App (Build 485) Review https://www.tradingheroes.com/metatrader-5-iphone-app-build-485-review/ Sat, 20 Aug 2011 07:30:31 +0000 http://www.tradingheroes.com/?p=5130 In my first review of the Metarader 5 iPhone app, wasn't too impressed.  It was slow and didn't ...

In my first review of the Metarader 5 iPhone app, wasn't too impressed.  It was slow and didn't have too many charting features.  Not that it was terrible though.  In reality, that is pretty much par for the course. Most apps can give you good quotes and a few decent charts, but that is about it.

However, other iPhone apps were quicker and provided more features.  In fact, I actually recommended using the Dukascopy iPhone app just for charting, not because it had more features, but the app was a lot faster.

I recently got a notification that it was time to update MT5, so I downloaded the new version from the App Store.  You can see the app in action in the video below, but I must admit, this is what I was looking for the first time.  The biggest improvements are the fact that you can add more than one indicator on a chart and that the program is much faster now.

The initial startup is really quick and switching between tabs is super fast.  On the last version, it was a little painful to switch between tabs, I'm glad that they have been able to speed up the program…even on my slow ass iPhone 3G.

Anyway, check out the full review below.  The software isn't a desktop replacement yet…but it is definitely getting there.

What do you think of Metatrader 5 for iPhone?  What are you using?  Leave a comment below…

Metatrader 5 iPhone Forex Software Review https://www.tradingheroes.com/metatrader-5-iphone-forex-software-review/ https://www.tradingheroes.com/metatrader-5-iphone-forex-software-review/#comments Fri, 03 Jun 2011 09:01:23 +0000 http://www.tradingheroes.com/?p=4885 I get my hands on the first MT5 iPhone app and compare it to other apps in the market. Metatrader 4 is such a good charting package that I was wondering when they would put all that programming power into an iPhone app.

How does it stack up against other products? Is it worth using? Find out in this post.

Metatrader 4 was my first introduction to a charting platform that actually worked the way I wanted…and it is free.  Ever since I first discovered it, I have been using it exclusively.  True, it's not perfect, but no piece of software is.

But there was still something missing.

A mobile trading app that would allow me to have the same (or similar) functionality when I am on the go.  I guess that could be a good or bad thing, but I think it is something that every trader dreams of.

My first iPhone forex charting software was a big step up from what I had used before, but it was slow and very limited.  In addition, they wanted to charge $60 for you to speed up the chart loading and link it to a trading account in which they were the introducing broker.  That meant higher spreads and questionable execution.  No thanks.

So when I heard that there was a MT5 app that was available for free, I downloaded it and installed it immediately on my iPhone 3G.   Here are my first impressions:

Happy trading!
