It’s actually quite interesting…even though they can double their accounts regularly, they only perform well with relatively small accounts. Whenever they trade bigger accounts, they freak out and do not perform well. So they can make a living with a relatively small account, but would need to do more psychology work to trade bigger. Their “dollartivity” is set low, so that is where they are comfortable.

Nothing wrong with that. They trade and don’t have to work a day job.

Things are not always what they seem 🙂

OK, imagine for a minute that you are a trader that can double your account every 1-3 months.

It is possible.

There is Paul Rotter, of course. But he has a different type of advantage.

On a smaller scale, I know of two traders who can do this FX and Futures. They are both women. It’s a very, very (very) rare talent and most of the best traders in the world cannot create this type of return.”

Can they really do that (double your account every 1-3 months) ? They must be Millionaires by now.

I believe it’s doable but doubt is always there

Valid points for sure. I agree with you, more trading courses should provide proof that they work.

That’s why I started Pipwire: https://pipwire.co/

However, as I mention above, there can be very good reasons for not showing your track record. Bottom line is that some of the best trading courses I have taken don’t provide track records.

…and if you don’t trust them, then you don’t buy their course and the educator doesn’t get your money. That’s fair right?

I think all educators should be ready to produce some sort of evidence of their own or their mentees’ trading. It’s a bit lazy to give excuses to justify coaches not producing a track record. The conversation should be HOW coaches can provide the required evidence while avoiding some of the issues you raised i.e. privacy.

Paying for trading education is just like any other investment. You cannot go about making investments without looking for some sort evidence of how that investment has performed in the past. We don’t do it for stocks, we don’t do it in forex, I’m not sure why students are being asked to do it for trading coaches – to just take a stab in the dark and see if it works for you.

It’s interesting to see that the majority (at the time of submitting this post) of people coming in and saying coaches shouldn’t have to provide their own track records are either coaches themselves or selling something 😉

I dig the fact that you have consciously chosen to focus on the positive aspects here and not the negative so much, it’s a credit to your mindset and something I aspire to on a daily basis. Time invested highlighting the gems of the trading world rather than focussing on the scumbags is an admirable pursuit. Good on you man!

Hi Dan,

Thanks! Both are good and that is why I feature them on my resources page: http://www.tradingheroes.com/resources/

Two different animals though. Joel’s site is great for daily fundamental and technical analysis. You can see him take trades based on his outlook. There aren’t specific trading strategies though.

Chris teaches very specific strategies that you can test and implement for yourself. He also has a great mindset course that very few people teach, much less do well, like he does.

Either way, you can’t go wrong. Just depends what you are looking for.

Hugh

Thanks Casey. Yeah, the bottom line is that even if you do all the research in the world, sometimes you just have to try it. Part of the education process is actually learning to identify what quality education looks like.

But if the educator responds to emails, that is a big plus. There have been several products that looked good but, the owners of the product simply didn’t get back to me.

Thanks, that’s a great point! Getting the results of former students is probably the best way to measure the effectiveness of the teacher.

I really like that you make your results available on Twitter and your students report their results too. More people should do that too!
