Why Fresh Historical Data is Important <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many so-called “backtests” published online only test a strategy over a period of 1 to 2 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem with these tests is that they do not cover enough market cycles to be a valid test. I talk about this more here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you download as much historical data as possible, you'll have a greater understanding of how your trading strategies will work and will therefore be more likely to work in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Updating your data with the latest information will also help you see if your trading strategy has stopped working. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So it's important to see both the old data and the newest data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that, here's how to update data in NakedMarkets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Download Historical Data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Start by going to Tools > Data center<\/strong> in the menu at the top of the screen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From there, you'll see this window. <\/p>\n\n\n

Under the Symbols<\/strong> tab, check all of the markets that you want to download data for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also select each individual market and change the Broker<\/strong> in the History<\/strong> section of the screen above, if you want to use data from a different broker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have set everything up, click the Update<\/strong> button to download the data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program will then show you which market(s) it will download. <\/p>\n\n\n

Click the Update<\/strong> button and the program will start to download the data for each individual market. <\/p>\n\n\n

Add Your Own Custom Data <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If NakedMarkets doesn't have the data that you want to backtest with, you can use the Data Import<\/strong> tab to add your own data. <\/p>\n\n\n

Enter the symbol name you want to import the data into next to Symbol name<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then click on the button next to the File to import field<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select the file you want to upload from your computer, then click on the Import<\/strong> button at the bottom of the window. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
