<strong>Rule Manager<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>New Rule<\/strong> button located in the lower left corner of the window.<\/li>\n<li>Choose <strong>Entry<\/strong> from the rule types.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1025129 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/nm-entry-1.jpg\" alt=\"Select Entry Rule\" width=\"302\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Naming Entry Rules<\/h2>\n<p>When naming Rules, using the following convention streamlines the process:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Strategy:<\/strong> Start by indicating the strategy name.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rule Type:<\/strong> Specify the type of rule, in this case, an <em>Entry <\/em>Rule.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trade Direction:<\/strong> Designate it as <em>Long<\/em> or <em>Short<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this example, I'm going to create a rule called &#8220;<strong>Swing Entry Long<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Since every Rule in NakedMarkets must have a unique name, this naming convention makes sure that there are no duplicates and makes it easy to access and reference Rules later.<\/p>\n<p>Now just to give you another example, if I created an entry rule for a long position based on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/automated-bollinger-bands-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bollinger Bands trading strategy<\/a>, I might name the rule &#8220;BB Entry Long&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Using the Rule Manager Window for Entry Rules<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You'll now have a blank Rule.<\/p>\n<p>Let's take a minute to take a look at the Rule Manager window so you know how to get the tools you need.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1025130\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/entry-rule-screen.jpg\" alt=\"NakedMarkets Entry Rule Screen\" width=\"1818\" height=\"937\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/entry-rule-screen.jpg 1818w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/entry-rule-screen-768x396.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/entry-rule-screen-1536x792.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1818px) 100vw, 1818px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here's how to use each of the areas that I've pointed out with arrows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tabs:<\/strong> Allows you work on different Rule types at the same time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Existing Rules:<\/strong> A list of existing Rules that you can drag and drop into the current Rule (if applicable).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Indicators \/ Operators:<\/strong> This is a list of all of the criteria that you can use in your Rules, including indicators, account information, operators, actions and more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Save Button:<\/strong> Be sure to hit the save button every time you make major changes, so you don't lose your work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Configuring an Entry Rule for Long Trades<\/h2>\n<p>Now let's dive into the core of the Rule setup.<\/p>\n<p>To change the settings in a dark colored box, double click it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The grayed out boxes require you to drag and drop another Rule or criteria into it.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is how to setup this example Rule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Order Type:<\/strong> For an instant order entry, double-click the order type at the top and select <strong>Instant Order: Buy<\/strong>. This will reduce the number of inputs available because there won't be any pending order criteria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lot Size:<\/strong> The default value is 1% risk per trade, so leave this default value.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exit Rule:<\/strong> Leave this blank because it's not needed in this case.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Configuring Stop Loss and Take Profit<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The rest of the boxes require you to drag and drop an existing Rule or criteria into it.<\/p>\n<p>For this example, I'll be using the last swing low and high as the stop loss and take profit, respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Defining Stop Loss with Swing Low<\/h3>\n<p>For the stop loss, I'll use the last swing low as a reference, which the backtesting software provides with built-in criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Here's a step-by-step guide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to <strong>Price Value<\/strong> under <strong>Default Rules\u00a0<\/strong>in the upper right side of the window.<\/li>\n<li>Expand the folder by clicking on the &#8220;+&#8221; symbol next to the folder.<\/li>\n<li>Drag <strong>Last Swing Low<\/strong> into the <strong>Stop Loss<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n<li>Use the default settings and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1025133\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/last-swing-stop-loss.jpg\" alt=\"Last swing stop loss\" width=\"1200\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/last-swing-stop-loss.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/last-swing-stop-loss-768x340.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Setting Take Profit with Swing High<\/h3>\n<p>Similarly to the stop loss, for the take profit, I set it at the last swing high using these steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Price Value<\/strong> under <strong>Default Rules\u00a0<\/strong>in the upper right side of the window.<\/li>\n<li>Drag the <strong>Last Swing High<\/strong> to the <strong>Take Profit<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n<li>Use the default settings and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Summary<\/h3>\n<p>Here's a summary of the settings:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Element<\/th>\n<th>Setting<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Order Type<\/td>\n<td>Instant Order: Buy<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Risk per Trade<\/td>\n<td>1%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Stop Loss<\/td>\n<td>Last Swing Low (Drag and drop from Price Value)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Take Profit<\/td>\n<td>Next Swing High (Drag and drop from Price Value)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>Once you've configured the rule, save it and move on to the short Rule.<\/p>\n<h2>Configuring an Entry Rule for Short Trades<\/h2>\n<p>NakedMarkets makes it easy to create a new Rule by cloning an existing Rule and just tweaking a few settings.<\/p>\n<p>So in this example, I'm just going to clone the long Rule and change a few settings.<\/p>\n<p>Here's how to clone the long Rule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find the long Rule on the right side in the <strong>User Rules<\/strong> section. You may have to expand the <strong>Entry Rules<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click the Rule and select <strong>Clone Rule<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Rename the cloned rule by right-clicking the new Rule (which says Copy at the end) and select <strong>Rename Rule<\/strong>. Change the descriptor at the end to <strong>Short<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong> to save the new name.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now you need to change the criteria to define a short entry.<\/p>\n<h3>Change the Order Type<\/h3>\n<p>First change the order type to sell\u00a0by double-clicking the order type at the top and set it to <strong>Instant Order: Sell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Defining Stop Loss with Swing High<\/h3>\n<p>For the stop loss, I'll use the last swing high.<\/p>\n<p>Do this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Price Value<\/strong> under <strong>Default Rules\u00a0<\/strong>in the upper right side of the window.<\/li>\n<li>Drag the <strong>Last Swing High<\/strong> into the stop loss box.<\/li>\n<li>Use the default settings and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Setting Take Profit with Swing Low<\/h3>\n<p>Similarly to stop loss, for take profit, I set it at the last swing low as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Price Value<\/strong> under <strong>Default Rules\u00a0<\/strong>in the upper right side of the window.<\/li>\n<li>Drag the <strong>Last Swing Low<\/strong> to the stop loss box.<\/li>\n<li>Use the default settings and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Save the short Rule and now you're ready to move on to testing.<\/p>\n<h3>Summary<\/h3>\n<p>Here's a summary of the short settings:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Element<\/th>\n<th>Setting<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Order Type<\/td>\n<td>Instant Order: Sell<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Risk per Trade<\/td>\n<td>1%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Stop Loss<\/td>\n<td>Last Swing High (Drag and drop from Price Value)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Take Profit<\/td>\n<td>Next Swing Low (Drag and drop from Price Value)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>Once you've configured the rule, save it and move on to the short Rule.<\/p>\n<h2>Testing the Entry Rules on the Chart<\/h2>\n<p>Now it's time to find out if your Rules work as expected.<\/p>\n<p>Do the following to test your Rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Close the <strong>Rule Manager<\/strong> and go back to the main NakedMarkets window.<\/li>\n<li>Start a new backtest by going to: <strong>File<\/strong> &gt; <strong>New Backtest<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>You can use all of the default settings, but you'll have to select a market that you want to test your Rules in. Any market is fine.<\/li>\n<li>Once you have a blank chart, click the <strong>Play<\/strong> button in the upper right corner of the window to move the chart forward.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the <strong>Pause<\/strong> button at any point.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here's where you can drag and drop your newly created Rule on the chart.<\/p>\n<p>Expand the <strong>Entry Rules<\/strong> folder on the left side of the screen by clicking on the &#8220;+&#8221; symbol next to it.<\/p>\n<p>Drag one of your Entry Rules onto the chart.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1025134 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/drag-drop-entry-rule.jpg\" alt=\"Drag and drop entry Rule\" width=\"910\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/drag-drop-entry-rule.jpg 910w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/drag-drop-entry-rule-768x405.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The software will automatically open a new trade because you set this Rule to <strong>Instant Order<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You'll also see a new trade pop up on the bottom of your screen under the <strong>Open Positions<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n<p>Check to see that the stop loss and take profit are set correctly.<\/p>\n<p>If they look good, then click the Play button again to move the chart forward.<\/p>\n<p>Price will either hit the stop loss or take profit on each trade.<\/p>\n<p>Test both the long and the short to see if they are working.<\/p>\n<p><em>It's actually really fun to do this, so feel free to drag and drop several times, just for the heck of it.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now if your Rules aren't working properly, go back into Rule Manager and find out what the issue is.<\/p>\n<p>You can do this by simply double-clicking the Rule on the left side of the backtesting screen.<\/p>\n<p>That will open the Rule Manager automatically.<\/p>\n<p>Keep adjusting and testing until it works properly.<\/p>\n<p>If you like what NakedMarkets can do and don't have it yet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/nakedmarkets-discount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you can get a discount here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Rule Optimization<\/h2>\n<p>Obviously, this was just an example.<\/p>\n<p>However, I think you can see how this can really speed up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/manually-backtest-multiple-timeframes\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"203\">manual backtesting<\/a> process.<\/p>\n<p>From here, start experimenting with different parameters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change the stop loss placement<\/li>\n<li>Change the take profit point<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with the risk per trade<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I'll explain how to create a more complex trading strategy in other tutorials.<\/p>\n<p>But for now, just master Entry Rules.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>That's all there is to it!<\/p>\n<p>But this is just the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Entry Rules are great on their own, but they are even more powerful when used in conjunction with Exit Rules, Core Rules and Setup Rules.<\/p>\n<p>Learning how to use all of the Rule types together will allow you to create partially or fully automated trading strategies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/nakedmarkets-keyboard-shortcuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keyboard shortcuts<\/a> will further speed up your order entry.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/nakedmarkets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NakedMarkets<\/a>, be sure to contact their team via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naked-markets.com\/Forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">their forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That is the best place to get support.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Entry Rules in NakedMarkets are a powerful way to speed up backtesting and create fully automated trading strategies.
