{"id":10833,"date":"2016-02-04T08:18:10","date_gmt":"2016-02-04T16:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/?p=10833"},"modified":"2025-07-30T00:34:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T07:34:25","slug":"trader-monitor-setup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/trader-monitor-setup\/","title":{"rendered":"A Trader Monitor Setup: Why You Need a Huge Screen For Trading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Anyone who tells you that size doesn't matter is lying to you.<\/strong> At least when it comes to your trader monitor setup.<\/p>\n<p>You see, I have tried it all&#8230;.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Just a laptop<\/li>\n<li>Four small screens on a PC<\/li>\n<li>Two computers and 6 small screens<\/li>\n<li>My laptop and one small external screen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The one that worked best was my laptop + a small external screen. For awhile, at least.<\/p>\n<p>I got some great tips from another trader and one of them was to get\u00a0at least one big monitor. <strong>The reason is that you can see more price history with a larger monitor.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That means more support and resistance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/how-to-draw-support-and-resistance\/\">zones<\/a>. You might miss this on a smaller monitor.<\/p>\n<p>Before my new monitor, I was working with this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10884\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/trading-monitor-setup.jpg\" alt=\"Trader monitor setup\" width=\"400\" height=\"548\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just for fun, you can compare it to other trading stations from around the world, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingacademy.com\/resources\/financial-education-center\/trading-desk-showcase.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So let's take a look at what I got and if it really makes a difference or not.<\/p>\n<h2>The New Trader Monitor Setup<\/h2>\n<p>Here is the new setup. It is almost ridiculous how much more I can see.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10887\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bigger-screen.jpg\" alt=\"trader monitor setup\" width=\"600\" height=\"362\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This picture might\u00a0not give you the full effect of how much more I can see, but trust me, it's a lot.<\/p>\n<p>I really like this TV because it has two HDMI ports. That allows me to keep both my Apple TV and my computer plugged in at the same time.<\/p>\n<h2>A Few Pointers<\/h2>\n<p>A few pointers, if this is what you want to do too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First, I would recommend going with a TV that has a 1080p resolution.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you get a 720p TV, the picture might look funky when you push the resolution up to 1080p. It can be usable, but not ideal.<\/p>\n<p>Get anything over 1080p, like a 4K, and your graphics card might not be able to handle it, so you are just wasting your money. If you want to get a 4K for movies, then that's fine.<\/p>\n<p>But just for trading, it's kind of a waste.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, I would recommend getting a desk mount for your trader monitor setup.<\/strong> This keeps your new monitor off your desk and gives you a lot more desk space. I love mine and highly recommend it.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to get one, I have a dual mount. I may want to get another monitor one of these days. It is similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/1S5iw7f\">this one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This monitor actually required special mounting screws because the metal part where the screws actually screw in, is recessed quite a bit from the surface.\u00a0But getting <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/1RIfh5i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the screws<\/a> from Amazon was easy. They are 3\/4&#8243; screws.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I needed a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/1K6aFTQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thunderbolt to HDMI cable<\/a> to connect my Macbook Air to the HDMI port.<\/p>\n<p>That was it! I just plugged it in and it worked.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Others traders agree, a larger screen helps a lot. When I asked people in my\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/lifestyletraders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">private Facebook trading group<\/a>, these are the answers that I got.\u00a0<strong>32&#8243; seems like a common monitor size.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10883\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/monitor-size-comments.jpg\" alt=\"Facebook comments about monitor size\" width=\"469\" height=\"153\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to talk to other traders from around the world, feel free to join the group on Facebook.
