have heard this story over and over and over, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/category\/podcast\/\">interviewing successful traders<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Therefore, the first thing you need to do is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/secret-weapon-in-trading\/\">forgive yourself<\/a> and make peace with the fact that this frustration is just part of the learning process.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>It's time to embrace the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/embrace-the-suck\/\">suck<\/a> and move forward.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>This guide will show you the best process I know of to reboot your trading in a clear, systematic way. <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><em>When you follow these steps, it becomes much easier to figure out where you are going wrong and how to fix it.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n<h2>Step 1: Take Full Responsibility for Your Trading Results\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<p>If you are blaming someone or something else for your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/recover-after-trading-loss\/\">trading losses<\/a>, stop right now.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Everything begins and ends with you.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>So take a good hard look in the mirror and repeat after me&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16189\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mirror-man.jpg\" alt=\"Mirror man\" width=\"1200\" height=\"558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mirror-man.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mirror-man-768x357.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>I am 100% responsible for my trading results.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>Here are some ways that you might not be taking complete responsibility for your trading results:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Blaming your broker for running your stops\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Blaming your job for not having enough time to trade\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Blaming a trading course for not teaching you the right strategy\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Blaming your mentor for not giving you enough attention<\/li>\r\n<li>Blaming <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4cTxqdx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Ferriss<\/a> because he hasn't figured out a hack for learning successful trading in 4 hours yet\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>You get the idea.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>So before you move on, you need to take <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2EhXBNU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">extreme ownership<\/a>\u00a0of your situation. <strong>Even if something may not seem like it's your responsibility, take ownership of it anyway.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Have a backup plan.<\/p>\r\n<p>Have a backup plan for your backup plan.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>For example, you cannot control when your internet connection will go down.<\/p>\r\n<p>But you can have your broker's app on your phone so you can still execute trades.<\/p>\r\n<p>You can also figure out which coffee shops in your neighborhood have free WiFi, so you can still trade, even if your internet at home goes out.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>If you want all of the rewards of successful trading, you need to be responsible for the not-so-fun parts too.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<h2>Step 2: Write Down Your Trading Strategy\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16185 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/writing-1.jpg\" https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/writing-1-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Do you have a real trading strategy or are you just parroting the last trading guru you saw on Instagram?\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>I see a lot of traders start trading a strategy (with real money) that they learned the day before on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/youtube-forex-trading-strategies\/\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>Usually, they only watched the video once and only have about 80% of the rules right.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><em>I'm not judging, I've totally been guilty of that too. <\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>But if you are wondering why you aren't getting the same results as the trader in the video, then this is one possible reason.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>There's nothing wrong with getting a trading strategy from YouTube, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/resources\/\">a course<\/a> or some blog.<\/p>\r\n<p>But take the time to write it down and go over the material several times so you are sure that you understand all of the rules to the strategy.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>You need to start building a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/3-reasons-why-you-should-read-the-playbook-by-mike-bellafiore-immediately\/\">playbook<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>An easy way to write down the complete rules of your trading strategy is to download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/forex-trading-plan-guide\/\">this free worksheet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>I know what you will probably ask next&#8230;<\/p>\r\n<p>But what if I trade several strategies?\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Then focus on just one for now. <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>The one that you think has the greatest probability of success. For every strategy you add, your chances of success drop significantly.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>It's like juggling.<\/p>\r\n<p>Anyone can juggle 1 ball.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>But how about 6?<\/p>\r\n<p>That's much, much harder.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/juggler.jpg\" alt=\"Juggler\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/juggler.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/juggler-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>I'm not calling anyone dumb.<\/p>\r\n<p>All humans have limits&#8230;including you.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><em>Start with one thing at become a master at it.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n<h2>Step 3: Figure Out if You Have an Edge\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<p><strong>Now that you have your strategy written down, it's time to test that strategy to see if it actually has an edge.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Obviously, there are a ton of different trading strategies out there.<\/p>\r\n<p>But at a very basic level, most traders either have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/fundamental-vs-technical-analysis\/\">technical or fundamental<\/a> trading strategy.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>If you have a primarily fundamental strategy, then see if you can get historical fundamental data to backtest your trading ideas.<\/p>\r\n<p>Can't get historical data?<\/p>\r\n<p>Then you will have to forward test your strategy.<\/p>\r\n<p>Read this post to learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/forex-forward-testing-guide\/\">forward testing<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>If you are trading a technical strategy, the read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/forex-backtesting-guide\/\">our backtesting guide<\/a> for tips and tools.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Either way, commit to testing your strategies in a demo account or with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/naked-markets-software-review\/\">backtesting software<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>If you cannot get positive results in testing, then there's no way that you will have an edge in live trading.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<h2>Step 4: Keep <em>Excellent<\/em> Records\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<p>This is <em>super<\/em>\u00a0important.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>In order to figure out exactly where your trading is going off the rails, you need to have as many feedback loops in place as possible.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>It's like the gauges on a dashboard.<\/p>\r\n<p>Each one tells the pilot exactly what's going on with a part of the helicopter.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16188\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/helicopter-dashboard.jpg\" alt=\"Helicopter dashboard\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/helicopter-dashboard.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/helicopter-dashboard-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Similarly, your records will allow you to see exactly what's happening in every aspect of your trading.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><em>So document everything you are doing.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>Here are the records that you should be keeping:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>If you are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/forex-backtesting-guide\/\">backtesting<\/a>, you should record every single test that you do in a spreadsheet. Yes, even the &#8220;bad&#8221; ones.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Journal every single one of your forward testing and live trades. It doesn't matter what you use, just use what works for you. Here are tutorials on how to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/evernote-forex-trading-journal\/\">Evernote<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/how-to-create-a-free-forex-trading-journal-with-trello-and-loom\/\">Trello<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Also journal your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/journal-missed-trades\/\">missed trades<\/a>. This will show you how much profit you are missing out on and more importantly&#8230;help you figure out how to stop missing out.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Track your win rate in live trading and how it compares to your testing results. If there is a big difference, then figure out why this is happening.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Record your physical and mental state when you are trading. You can do this in your journal as a qualitative entry, or you can use quantitative tools like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/does-meditation-really-work\/\">Muse<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Uo5aao\">heart rate monitor<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2PlHvDW\">Apple Watch<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/tools\/neurotrader\">NeuroTrader<\/a>. Try to spot patterns in your readings that tell you when you should and should not be trading.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>I know that it's a lot to track. But if you are dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/become-successful-trader\/\">becoming a successful trader<\/a>, then you should leave no stone unturned.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Take a look at what elite athletes do to train for their sport.<\/p>\r\n<p>That will give you some clues as to what it will take to make it in trading.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>The &#8220;sport&#8221; is different, but mindset needed for success is the same.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<h2>Step 5: Adjust Systematically\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16186 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/adjustments.jpg\" alt=\"Adjustment \" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/adjustments.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.tradingheroes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/adjustments-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Now that you have a process in place for tracking your progress, work on each step and don't move on until you have completed each step successfully.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>If you hit a point where something isn't working, then don't give up and jump to a new strategy.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Simply backtrack to the last step and try to figure out what changed when you moved on to the next step.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>You may have to experiment with a few different variations of your strategy before you find something that works.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Trading is not easy. But if want the rewards, you have to be willing to put in the work.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2>Final Thoughts\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<p>So if you are ready to reboot your trading and start fresh, first take a few deep breaths.
